Challenges of HIS Sustainability in Developing Countries

The driving question: What are the challenges of sustainability for health information systems in developing countries?

For developing countries (i.e. Philippines), the need for good quality data is very much needed for decision making and hasty action for health issues, intervention, solution and promotion. I am very sure that countries included this in their roadmaps and established manual-based systems that must have been passed on from generations to generations. Also, attempts to have an efficient and accurate way of doing things must have been considered. Basically, the best way to optimize things is through the use of the current technology and Health Information Systems. This will help attain the good quality data given this characteristics: Complete, correct, timely, legible, accessible and secure.

But of course, in every aspect, PROs come with CONs. These innovations have their hurdles to overcome for them to be successful. I created a mindmap to illustrate these challenges (Please see attached image)

Teaser:
Country's status - the country's socio-economic, geopolitical situation can greatly affect the effectiveness of a HIS
Stakeholders - These are the actors who contribute to a HIS success, but they can also ignite its failure
Design - Innovators that serve as catalysts for ideas, the people working on the development of a HIS has a crucial role to HIS success, also to planning and deployment.
Implementers - Monetary constraints and poor management skills are just a few factors that may affect an information system's sustainability.
